Revenue seize tobacco worth almost €600,000 at Dublin Port

Last Thursday (21/03/2024), as part of an intelligence-led operation and with the assistance of Revenue’s mobile x-ray scanner and detector dog Milo, Revenue officers seized approximately 1,050 kgs of chewing tobacco and 24 kgs of tobacco with an estimated value of approximately €597,300 at Dublin Port.

The illicit tobacco was discovered within a consignment when Revenue officers examined an unaccompanied trailer arriving from Rotterdam, via the Czech Republic.

Investigations are ongoing.

This seizure is part of Revenue’s ongoing operations targeting the shadow economy and the supply and sale of illegal tobacco products. If businesses, or members of the public, have any information regarding smuggling, they can contact Revenue in confidence on 1800 295 295.
