What is PAYE Anytime?

PAYE Anytime is the Irish Revenue On-Line Service for employees. This interactive facility offers individuals who pay taxes under the Pay As You Earn (PAYE) system, a quick, secure and cost effective method to manage their taxes online. With PAYE Anytime you can avail of a full suite of services including viewing information held on your Revenue record. You can claim Tax Credits, declare additional income and update your personal information.

What are the benefits of using the PAYE Anytime?

Fast & Flexible - It lets you do business with us directly from any computer that has internet access. No need to write or phone or call into our public offices.

Faster processing - Changes requested are reflected in your PAYE record in 2 days.

Acknowledgements - When a transaction is submitted using PAYE Anytime, it will be instantly acknowledged and a permanent record of the transaction will be put in Your Requests History.

Paperless - There is no need to submit paper claims when a transaction is submitted through PAYE Anytime, however you are obliged to retain receipts for 6 years as Revenue may ask to view them at a later stage.

Clerical errors - The PAYE Anytime validation ensures the data entered is correct and you are notified immediately of any errors. Service is 24/7/365 - This level of access allows customers to access and update their Revenue Account at a time and location most suitable to them.

How do I register for PAYE Anytime?

It is easy to register and avail of a wide range of services. There are 3 simple steps to register, which allows Revenue validate your identity, thereby ensuring all online transactions with Revenue are secure.

To Register - Log onto www.revenue.ie, from the PAYE Anytime logo, click on the Register button.

  • Step 1 - Enter your Personal Public Service Number (PPSN)
  • Step 2 - Enter your Personal Details
  • Step 3 - Enter your contact details i.e. daytime contact number and your e-mail address.

Remember to click Continue to submit your details.

Following the successful verification of your personal details, you will be issued with a Revenue PIN by post.

After registering do I need anything else to access PAYE Anytime?

You will need your Personal Public Service Number (PPSN) and the requested 3 digits of your Revenue PIN to access your Revenue account. The Revenue PIN is 6 digits in length. At Login stage you will be asked for 3 randomly selected digits to establish your identity. You are also required to answer a security question. This security question will be based on information held on Revenue records.

You will have a maximum of 3 attempts to authenticate your Revenue PIN otherwise you will be locked out of the system for 24 hours.

Forgotten Revenue PIN

It is important to note that if you forget or misplace your Revenue PIN, you must re- register in order to use the PAYE Anytime service. This re-registration will generate a new PIN.

What years are available to me in PAYE Anytime?

PAYE Anytime is available for the current and previous 4 years.

Can I access/amend my spouse details?

Yes - Either spouse can access and amend details if you are Jointly Assessed.

Can I declare my PAYE Income(s) and claim Tax Credits in the Irish language?

Yes - if you are registered with Revenue as an Irish-speaking customer PAYE Anytime will automatically be made available to you in Irish.

The screen is displayed in the language the user has registered for. The user when logged into the application can switch the language button to see the information either in English or Irish.

Can I use PAYE Anytime to access my PAYE Tax details without claiming a review?

Yes - PAYE Anytime is available to customers who merely want access to their tax details. It is not a requirement of PAYE Anytime that, if you register, you must submit transactions electronically.

What is 'Overview' Page?

The Overview page displays your current year summary. It also allows you to navigate throughout the PAYE services. From this page services may be accessed by clicking the tabs across the top of the screen. The services available are:

  • Your Profile - enables you to go paper free and to view and update your Personal Information that is held by Revenue, this will include your personal and contact details.
  • From the Overview page you can access the previous four years by clicking on the tab that displays the relevant year.
  • View Your Requests History - clicking Your Requests History tab enables you to view all your PAYE transactions.

The services that are available in 'Your Profile' section are:

Your Profile will be presented to you the first time you enter the site. Here you will be requested to review the information presented and to update as appropriate.

In this section you can:

  • Choose the language (Irish or English) you would like to receive correspondence in
  • Change some contact details such as phone numbers and email address
  • Give details of children
  • Opt to "Go Paper Free" and have your Revenue documentation i.e. Balancing Statement (P21) and Tax Credit Certificate (TCC) sent to "Your Request History".

Simply edit the information you wish to update and click "Add to Your Request" button.

Can I change my address using PAYE Anytime?

No - your contact information cannot be changed using PAYE Anytime. To change your address you will need to contact your local tax office.

What can I do in the 'Current Year Summary' Section?

You can view and update the tax credits, incomes and rate bands information currently held on your Revenue record.

Claim additional tax credits that you are entitled to.

Declare additional incomes for the current year.

By selecting any of the previous year tabs displayed, you can claim tax credits (including Health Expenses) or declare other income for previous years.

You can view Pay and Tax details and request a PAYE balancing statement (P21) for the year selected.

Is there a calculation facility on PAYE Anytime to help me calculate reliefs due?

Yes - by selecting the Calculate option (clicking on the calculate button presented on the screen) you will be advised of the amount of relief to be granted at the standard rate of tax.

What information is available in the Overview page?

Overview page allows access to information on the current and previous four years tax credits and incomes.

Selecting a year enables you to view, amend and update your tax credits and incomes, which will be used to determine your tax liability.

Once your changes have been processed by Revenue you will be issued with a new tax credit certificate or PAYE balancing statement/end of year review (P21).

Tell me more about Your Requests History?

Your Requests History is your own personal secure mailbox. This is where copies of all transactions you have submitted to Revenue via PAYE Anytime are held. Your Requests History is held on the secure Revenue On line site and nobody, other than you, has access to it. You can view all new documents, and all previously read documents. There is a search facility in Your Requests History, which allows you to search/view a document using the document type or a notice number. Your Requests History items that have been read can be archived so that they are no longer viewable on the initial screen.

Archived documents can be retrieved at any time by using the search facility.

How do I request End Of Year Review/Balancing Statement (P21) for previous years?

As well as displaying the current year the Overview page displays links to the previous four years on the main navigation bar. By selecting a year you will be brought to the Tax Overview screen for that year. On this page you can claim a tax credit (including Health Expenses) for that year and also request an End of Year Review/PAYE balancing statement (P21).

Please ensure that your Personal Information held by Revenue, is correct and up to date, as this will determine your entitlements.

When you submit your request for a PAYE balancing statement (P21) you will be asked to confirm your pay and tax details held on our record for that year.

In addition to entering details of the tax credits you wish to claim for the review year, you can also enter missing pay and tax details if appropriate. These details are shown on form P60, which issues from your employer, after the end of the tax year.

Four Key Steps to Enter the Correct Pay, Tax and USC Deducted Amounts

  • You should only use the amounts shown on the Form P60 which has been given to you by your employer. The relevant amounts on this form that you should enter are shown as Pay, in respect of THIS period of employment (See Part (A) 3 of P60) and Net Tax Deducted in this period of employment (See Part (B) 3 of P60), Gross Pay for USC (See Part (D) 1 of P60) and Net USC Deducted in THIS period of employment (See Part (D) 3 of P60. Any amounts deducted in respect of PRSI, must not be included.
  • Take care to ensure that you are using the form P60 appropriate to the year of the claim e.g. for 2012, use the Form P60 for the year ended 31st December 2012.
  • Please ignore the cent amount when entering the Pay and USC figure.
  • You should never enter approximate amounts, only use the details on the Form P60.

How do I submit details to Revenue through PAYE Anytime?

As you complete each request in PAYE Anytime a summary will be held in Your PAYE Requests. When you are satisfied that these requests are correct you can then submit all changes .You complete this process by entering 3 randomly selected digits from your Revenue PIN and clicking on the 'submit' button.

Requests will not become effective until you click the 'Submit' button.

Please note that Requests you’ve previously submitted may not be reflected in PAYE Anytime for 2 days.

Will a receipt of my declaration/claim be acknowledged?

Yes - this is the final stage in the filing process. Immediately after submitting a request you will receive an on screen acknowledgement and details of the transactions are then available for viewing as a new item in Your Requests History.

Can a self-employed individual access his/her PAYE details?

Yes - Self-employed individuals may access their PAYE details with their Digital Certificate if they have an active PAYE record. The PAYE services can be accessed from the 'My Services' page after log in by clicking on the 'PAYE' banner tab link on all Business Services pages.

When submitting a claim, if the self-employed individual entered PAYE Anytime though ROS Business they must enter their digital certificate password before clicking the submit button.

How do I register for Income Tax through PAYE Anytime?

A customer can register for Income Tax by selecting the current year and clicking the "Register for Income Tax" link in the left-hand panel. You must supply information regarding your Business/Economic Activity. Once you have submitted your request your registration details can be processed.

Where can I find my Pay & Tax Details?

  • You should only use the amounts shown on your Form P60 or Form P45, which have been given to you by your current or your previous employer. The relevant amounts on these forms are shown as Pay, this employment and Tax Deducted, this employment.
  • Please ignore the cent amounts for both Pay and Tax Deducted.
  • You should never enter approximate amounts and must only use the Form P60 or Form P45 details.
  • Take care to ensure that you are using the correct Form P60 or Form P45 for the appropriate year i.e. only use the 2010 Form P60 details for entries to that year.

FAQs on the use of the PAYE Anytime Service by Agents for Clients

Can Agents access the PAYE Anytime service for their Clients?

Yes. ROS Tax Agents can access the redesigned version of PAYE Anytime for their clients who are registered for PAYE through their ROS Digital Certificate.

How do I register as an Agent for a PAYE Client?

To register as the Agent for a PAYE taxpayer, please refer to Revenue eBrief No 40/2012 for further details.

Note: It takes 3-4 working days for the client link to update to ROS

How do I gain access to PAYE Anytime?

As an Agent you will be able to search ROS for clients who are registered for PAYE via the PAYE-Ind tax type, as well as using all the existing Client Searches on the Agent Services page. If your client has an active PAYE registration, then a PAYE tab will be visible on the Client Services screen just above the client's name. When you click on this tab PAYE Anytime will launch in a new browser window where you will be presented with the PAYE Anytime Overview screen for that customer.

Note: You will remain logged into ROS in the original browser window.

How do I quit the Client's PAYE area?

PAYE Anytime launches in a new browser window. You will remain logged into ROS in the original browser window and can return to this window at any time while logged into PAYE Anytime.

To log out of PAYE Anytime click the 'Log out' button located at the top righthand corner of the PAYE Anytime screen.

What years are available in PAYE Anytime?

The current year, plus the four previous review years are available in PAYE Anytime.

Please note, however, that if your client was not registered for PAYE during one or more of the review years, or was registered for Income Tax assessing in one or more of the review years, then such year(s) cannot be reviewed.

What can I see/update in a Client's ROS Profile?

You can enter your client's date of birth where this is not already on record and add the number of dependent children. You can also enter or amend your client's bank account details. The bank account details provided must be those of the client. On no account should Agents/Practitioners input their own or their practice's bank account in the client's record. If you wish to change the client’s address you will need to contact the client’s local tax office.

What can I do in the Current Year Overview Section?

As an Agent linked to your PAYE client you can complete all available PAYE transactions on behalf of your client. This means that you can view, add, amend or delete the principal Tax Credits and Incomes information currently held by Revenue for your client.

Can I access/amend a Client's spouse details?

Yes – but only if your client and their spouse are jointly assessed.

How can I request a review of a Client's PAYE for a review year?

You can request a client's PAYE Balancing Statement (P21) for one or more review years by selecting any of the four previous years displayed on the Overview screen. Revenue will review your client's income and tax for the year(s) and issue a Balancing Statement (P21).

Note: This facility is available for clients who had PAYE income only in a review year. If clients were registered for Income Tax in any year, then they should complete a Form 11 for that year.

How do I view my Client's Pay & Tax Details on PAYE Anytime?
Can I access my client's P60 on ROS PAYE?

You can view details of your client's taxable pay and tax paid for a review year by selecting the Pay & Tax link for that year. A client's P60 cannot be viewed in PAYE Anytime.

Can I view correspondence submitted by a Client?

No - but you can view the dates of any written correspondence to/from your client by clicking the 'Your Requests History' button on the menubar. This will bring you in to the 'Your Requests History' section. Correspondences can be filtered by selecting 'Correspondence' in the 'Filter by Entry Type' drop-down list and clicking the 'Go' link located beside it.

If a Client is registered for PAYE Anytime and has opted to receive correspondence electronically can I view this correspondence?

A paper copy of PAYE correspondence is sent to an Agent even in cases where a PAYE customer has opted to receive correspondence electronically. In addition, the Agent can view the contents of the customer's 'Your Requests History'. It should be noted that PAYE-related correspondence is not available in the Agent or Client ROS Inbox, which holds only business correspondence.

Can Agents restrict Access Control to PAYE Services?

An Agent can restrict sub-users from accessing PAYE Services on PAYE Anytime. "PAYE-Ind" is available on the Administration Services screen as a tax type, so a ROS Administrator can grant "File", "Prepare", "View" or "No" permissions to their sub-users.
