Revenue eBrief No. 18/2008

4th April 2008

ROS Downtime Notice - 26 April
Form 11 filing unavailable - 25 April

The Revenue On-Line Service (ROS) will be unavailable on Saturday 26 April to facilitate a change to processing of Income Tax Returns (Forms 11).

Associated with this change the facility to file a Form 11 online will be temporarily unavailable from 6 p.m. on Thursday 24 April until after the downtime on Saturday.

  • Friday 25 April 2008: ROS available but no Form 11 filing
  • Saturday 26 April 2008: ROS unavailable

In recent years, Revenue's Integrated Taxation System (ITS) has become the main vehicle for processing business taxes, supporting the processing of tax payments, tax refunds and certain compliance activities. However, the "Assessing System" which processed the Income Tax and Corporation tax return data and computed the tax liability to produce a notice of assessment has, until now, remained on an older system.

Revenue is pleased to announce that the Income Tax Assessing System will now be incorporated into ITS over the weekend of 26 and 27 April.

To facilitate this changeover the facility to file a Form 11 on-line through ROS will be temporarily withdrawn from 6 p.m. on Thursday 24 April. All other ROS services will remain available on Friday 25 April.

ROS will be unavailable on Saturday 26 April but will resume with all services, including online Form 11 filing, from Sunday 27 April.

If necessary, customers and practitioners can prepare offline returns in the interim that can then be filed on-line when the service resumes.

Forms 11 filed up to 6 p.m. on Thursday 24 April will be processed by the current assessing system and customers will receive Notices of Assessment in the existing format over the weekend. Forms 11 filed after 26 April will result in Notices of Assessment from the new system in a new and improved format, incorporating a covering letter, summary calculation information and a fully detailed Notice of Assessment. The new system will support the production of Notices of Assessment on a more frequent basis than heretofore to further improve customer service.

The next step in this process will be to bring the processing of Corporation Tax Returns (Forms CT1) into ITS as well. We hope to achieve this by mid 2009.

We regret any inconvenience caused by this temporary unavailability of ROS and trust that the new service will prove beneficial to you.

Note : Direct Trader Input (DTI) transactions from Customs (AEP) Filers are unaffected by this downtime.

Revenue On-Line Service is the easiest and quickest way to meet your tax obligations.
