Seizure of Cigarettes at Drogheda Port
As part of ongoing operations targeting large scale smuggling of cigarettes into Ireland, officers from Revenue's Customs service in Dundalk have seized 2.3 million cigarettes at Drogheda Port. The cigarettes are valued at approximately €700,000 with a potential loss of revenue amounting to €550,000. The Sovereign brand cigarettes were concealed in a container amongst legitimate freight which had arrived by ship from Rotterdam. The consignment is believed to have been destined for the U.K. market.
