200,000 Cigarettes Seized by Revenue Officers
Revenue's Customs service in Shannon and Limerick last week (30/06/05) seized 200,000 cigarettes near Bansha, Co. Tipperary valued at €66,000. The cigarettes and the vehicle transporting the goods have been seized. The potential loss of revenue amounts to €54,000. The 'L & M' and 'Marlborough' brand cigarettes were found hidden in a container whose contents were declared as 'textiles'.
The cigarettes originated in Lithuania and arrived in Shannon Airport via Dublin Airport.
A file is being prepared for Director of Public Prosecutions.
