Cigarette Seizure in New Ross

In an operation involving officers from Revenue's Customs service in New Ross, assisted by the Revenue Customs Cutter, R.C.C Suirbheir, 200,000 L&M brand cigarettes have been seized and a Maltese registered vessel placed under arrest.

The Customs Cutter placed the vessel, which had sailed from Kalingrad, Russia, under surveillance following receipt of intelligence, until it reached New Ross Port. Customs officers awaiting its arrival conducted a rummage of the ship which uncovered the contraband.

The cigarettes are valued at €65,000 and the revenue at risk amounts to €61,000.
