Two Million Cigarettes Seized by Customs at Cork.

Officers from Revenue’s Customs service in Cork, last night (06/07/05) seized two million contraband cigarettes hidden in a consignment which had arrived at Tivoli Docks in the port of Cork via Rotterdam from China. The cigarettes with a value of €600,000 were concealed in a batch of men’s shirts which had originated in China, bound for Limerick.

Three men, all Irish residents, were interviewed by Customs Officers in Limerick and a file is being prepared for the DPP.

The seizure is part of an International Customs operation, involving the Customs Service of the Netherlands.
