3.5 million Cigarettes seized in Rosslare Europort
Officers from Revenue's Customs service seized 3.5 million contraband cigarettes which arrived on a ferry from Cherbourg, France at the weekend. The cigarettes, valued at over €1 Million, together with an articulated truck and trailer have been seized. The potential loss of revenue amounts to €845,000. The Superking brand cigarettes were found in the trailer, hidden in packages described as 'lettuce'.
The driver of the truck, a Northern Ireland resident, was released following questioning. Investigations are continuing.
The find resulted from risk profiling.
