Two Million Cigarettes seized by Customs
Officers from Revenue's Customs service from Dublin Port today (23/12/2005) seized two million contraband cigarettes valued at €600,000. The potential loss of revenue amounts to €500,000. The 'Burton' brand cigarettes were found hidden in a container which was declared as 'waterproof jackets'.
The cigarettes originated in Dubai and arrived in Dublin by car-ferry via Antwerp. The find resulted from intelligence. Investigations are continuing.
