Major Cannabis seizure in Dublin

Officers from Revenue's Customs Service and Gardai from Ashbourne and the Garda National Drugs Unit this evening (08/03/2005) seized 107Kgs of Cannabis valued at almost €0.5 Million. One Irish male in his 40's with an address in Galway was arrested under Section 2 of the Drug Trafficking Act and taken to Ashbourne Garda station for questioning.

The load originated in Holland and arrived in Dublin Port by ferry on a container. The load was packed on a pallet described as 'stationery' and the drugs were concealed amongst the stationery. 55Kgs of Cannabis resin and 52Kgs of herbal Cannabis were discovered. The man was arrested when he arrived in a van to collect the pallet.

The seizure resulted from risk profiling by Customs officers at Dublin Port.
