Over 240,000 Tax Returns Filed Electronically
By midnight on 16th November, the tax deadline for electronic filers, a total of 244,114 income tax returns were filed through Revenue's on-line services (ROS). Over 86,000 customers chose to pay their tax online this year (an increase of 29% over last year).
Early indications suggest that over 70% of timely filers used the electronic route this year. This compares very favourably with 65% last year and 53%; 40% and 9% in the preceding years.
Online payment of tax also increased this year with over €2.2 billion paid this year compared to €1.4b at the same time last year.
A record number of returns (over 30,000) were successfully filed on the last day.
The ROS helpdesk (1890 20 11 06) which remained open until midnight, took over 1,900 calls yesterday assisting customers to file returns and make payments right up to the deadline.
Revenue Chairman Frank Daly said; "The excellent filing figures demonstrate strong customer confidence by taxpayers and their agents in the security and efficiency of ROS. Revenue is encouraged by the increases in timely filing and payment of taxes. I would like to thank all those taxpayers and their agents who contributed to this positive outcome."
