Cigarette Seizure at Rosslare Europort
Officers from Revenue's Customs service yesterday (24/04/06) seized 119,400 Lambert & Butler cigarettes and 49kgs of Drum tobacco with an estimated street value of approx. €50,000. The potential loss of revenue amounts to €39,000. The cigarettes were concealed in a rented KIA people carrier that had arrived on the Normandy ferry from Cherbourg. Two rear seats in the vehicle had been removed to facilitate concealment of the cigarettes and tobacco.
A woman with an address in Manchester was questioned and later released.
The find resulted from risk profiling.
