Customs Officers seize €13 Million of Herbal Cannabis in Dublin Port

Officers from Revenue’s Customs Service, in Dublin Port, have discovered over one tonne of herbal cannabis with an estimated street value of EUR 13 million concealed in a freight consignment, which had arrived from South Africa today (8 August 2007).

The seizure was made as a result of the ongoing monitoring and profiling of goods imported from a number of high-risk areas by the National Freight Intelligence Unit.

Following profiling, a 20ft container, which had originated in South Africa was scanned by the Customs X-Ray Scanner.

Customs Enforcement Officers at Dublin Port carried out a detailed examination of the granite lecture stands and found herbal cannabis concealed in six of them. Each of the stands contained approximately 170kgs of herbal Cannabis.

Investigations are ongoing.
