Seizure of cigarettes in Rosslare
Officers from Revenue's Customs service at Rosslare Europort last night (13/06/2007) seized 173,800 Marlboro brand cigarettes with a value of over €61,000 and a potential loss of revenue amounting to almost €48,000. The haul, concealed in a false compartment of a trailer, was detected by the Customs Container Scanner. The cigarettes had originated in Poland and had arrived in Ireland by carferry via Cherbourg, France. A 48-year-old Polish man was released after questioning.
