Cigarette Seizure at Rosslare

Officers from Revenue's Customs service in Rosslare Europort have seized 187,000 cigarettes with a retail value if €1.3 million. The potential loss of revenue amounts to €51,000. The Marlboro and other brands of cigarettes were transported in a vehicle which arrived off the ferry from France. The driver of the vehicle, a Bulgarian national, was released after questioning. The cigarettes were concealed in 117 tins marked as "Sheep's Milk Cheese". Each tin contained a quantity of sand and water an effort to create weight and disguise the contraband.

The find was made as a result of risk profiling by Customs officers.
