Minister for Finance Opens Revenue House in Cork

The Minister for Finance, Mr Brian Lenihan, TD today, (22/12/08), officially opened Revenue House, the new headquarters for the Revenue Commissioner's South West Region at Blackpool in Cork. The three-storey building is home to 500 Revenue staff.

In his speech, the Minister said:

"I’m delighted to be here in Cork to officially open this fine new Revenue building. I am sure that this office and its 500 staff are very welcome to the commercial life of Blackpool, and certain that they will make a significant contribution to its continuing development."
"This project is an outstanding example of what can be achieved by vision, effort, co-operation and hard work. A major project like this requires meticulous planning and dedication on the part of those charged with bringing it to fruition. Today you see the fruits of that combined effort of private and public sector which is an example to all."

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Revenue Chairman, Josephine Feehily said:

"We are convinced of the value of local presence and local knowledge in providing high-quality customer service and in detecting and dealing with evasion and this fine modern building is a fitting symbol for the modern efficient organisation that is Revenue today. The South West Region has a track record of innovation in tax and customs administration and I look forward to greater success from Tony Buckley and his staff in this well equipped regional centre."

The building provides state of the art facilities for staff and the 120,000 public callers who use it each year. The National Disability Authority awarded the building and staff the "Excellence" standard on 3 December 2008 following a rigorous examination of its provision of access for people with disabilities.
