€10 Million Cannabis Seizure at Rosslare Europort
Officers from Revenue's Customs Service have today (02/10/2008) seized over 1450Kgs of cannabis resin with a street value of €10 million in Rosslare Europort. The haul was discovered when officers, using risk-profiling, selected a Dutch registered refrigerated articulated truck for examination on 01/10/2008.
Drug detector dog 'Dillon' gave a positive indication and the vehicle was further examined. An extensive search uncovered an elaborate concealment in a false floor of the trailer. Cutting equipment had to be used to get to the drugs which were hidden underneath steel plated compartments , which were covered with a wooden floor.
The driver, a 42 year old Dutch national has been arrested under Section 2 Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996, and is being detained at Wexford Garda station.
The truck, which arrived on the car-ferry from the Netherlands via the UK, contained a load of potted plants consigned to a business address in Cork.
Investigations are continuing.
