Cigarettes seized at Cork Airport
Officers from Revenue's Customs service at Cork Airport stopped a well organised gang operating out of Northern Ireland who attempted to smuggle 112,700 cigarettes with a retail value of €44,000. The cigarettes were packed into suitcases and included 86,700 Mayfair, 22,000 Palace & 4,000 Silk Cut brand.
The gang of five men and three women arrived on a flight from Lanzarote at 1.00am on Saturday morning, (02/11/2008). They were released following questioning. Customs officers believe the cigarettes were destined for the Northern Ireland market.
