Minister for Transport opens Revenue's Decentralised Office in Navan
Mr. Noel Dempsey, TD, Minister for Transport today (05/03/08) officially opened Revenue's decentralised office in Navan. The office, which is situated in Abbey Buildings, Abbey Road, is the location for 95 Revenue staff who moved to Navan in January 2008.
The new office is home to Meath Revenue District which is responsible for the administration of all taxes for taxpayers residing in the county.
Speaking at the opening, Minister Dempsey said:
"The re-location of Meath Revenue District from Dublin to Navan will ensure that the taxpayers of Co. Meath - who now number some 88,000 PAYE taxpayers and some 29,000 businesses, figures that are growing - are now dealt with locally from an office within the county itself and by staff that are located here. As a result, Meath taxpayers will get a better service while Revenue's direct presence here will ensure that it will gain a better understanding of business and economic activity in the county."
The Chairman of the Revenue Commissioners, Mr. Frank Daly said:
"Decentralisation fits very neatly with our core vision that Revenue should be close to citizens. It's about Revenue being at the service of the community - a phrase that is at the very heart of our mission statement as an organisation. It means citizens in Meath being able to conduct their business with Revenue in Meath."
The official opening at Navan today represents the fourth decentralised office to be opened by Revenue in as many months and follows the opening of offices in Kilrush, Listowel and Athy.
[Ends 05/03/08]
