Drug seizures at Dublin Airport
Officers of Revenue's Customs Service at Dublin Airport, within the last week, have seized quantities of cocaine, herbal cannabis, heroin and prescribed drugs. As a result six people have been arrested and charged.
A 47 year old female Dutch National together with her teenage son were intercepted by Customs Officers on their arrival on a flight from Amsterdam and both were found to have swallowed pellets of cocaine. The approx weight of the cocaine was .785kgs valued at €52,500.
A 44 year old Latvian national with an address in Dublin was stopped when Officers became suspicious. He had arrived on a flight from Paris having started his journey at French Guyana and was later found to have ingested approximately one kilo of cocaine valued at €70,000.
9 Kilos of herbal cannabis valued at €108,000 was seized from a 25 year old Polish male national with an address in Belfast when he arrived on a flight from Charleroi, Belgium. Officers discovered the cannabis concealed in his suitcase.
A 25 year old Irish male was intercepted on his arrival from Bangkok,Thailand. He arrived on a flight from Abu Dhabi and was found to have 39,000 valium tablets worth €200,000 concealed in his baggage.
An Irish male who arrived on a flight from Amsterdam was also arrested when a Customs sniffer dog reacted to him. He was found to be in possession of 3grms of Heroin and 40grms of cannabis.
In all of the above cases the offenders were handed over to the Santry Garda Drug Squad, charged and are currently on remand.
In addition a 17 year old Irish national was found in possession of 1,248 Limovan tablets, a restricted prescribed sleeping tablet when he arrived from Alicante. A prosecution file is being prepared for the DPP by the Irish Medicines Board.
