Cash Seizure at Dublin Airport

Officers from Revenue's Customs service at Dublin Airport on Friday evening last ( 05/09/2008), seized approximately €80,000 suspected drug money under the Proceeds of Crime Act.

The cash was discovered during a routine operation on outbound passengers and was concealed in the suitcase of a 28 year-old Dublin man who was about to depart on a flight to Amsterdam.

On Saturday, Judge Patrick Clyne of Dublin District court granted an application for a detention order for three months to allow Customs Officers carry out further investigations.

The detention brings to €2.3 million the total detained by Customs officers at Dublin Airport under the Proceeds of Crime Act, since the beginning of 2008.
