Cash Seizure at Dublin Airport
Officers from Revenue's Customs Service today (12/02/08) secured a three-month detention order under the Proceeds of Crime Act for €270,000 cash they seized at Dublin Airport yesterday (Monday).
The cash was discovered when officers searched the hand-baggage of a 30 year-old Irish national who was about to depart on a flight to London yesterday afternoon.
This morning officers applied for, and were granted a three-month detention order by Justice William Early in the District Court to carry out further investigations.
Officers believe the cash was being exported to fund the purchase and importation of a large consignment of drugs.
This is the 5th cash seizure by Customs in Dublin Airport since the beginning of 2008 totalling €597,105.
