Customs seize 6 Million Cigarettes at Waterford Port
Officers from Revenue's Customs Service at Waterford Port, Sunday 6 April (06/04/2008), seized over 6 million cigarettes.
The cigarettes, 'Gold Classic' and 'Raquel Classic' brand, with an estimated street value of €2.1m. were concealed in a container which had arrived from Zebrugge, Belgium.
The contents of the container appeared on the manifest as 'Toys'.
The seizure was as a result of risk profiling.
Investigations are ongoing both nationally and Internationally
