Customs Officers Seize Cash at Dublin Airport
Officers from Revenue's Customs Service today, (17/10/08), secured a three-month detention order under the Proceeds of Crime Act for cash seized at Dublin Airport yesterday (Thursday 16/10/08).
In a joint operation with Airport Police, officers seized approximately €187,000 in accordance with Section 38, Criminal Justice Act 1994 as amended by Section 20, Proceeds of Crime ( Amendment) Act 2005. The cash was discovered in the baggage of a 34 year-old Dutch male who was about to depart on a flight to Amsterdam yesterday morning.
This morning officers applied for, and were granted, a three-month detention order by Justice William Early in the District Court to carry out further investigations.
This is the 24th cash seizure by Customs in Dublin Airport in 2008 bringing the total to €2.45million.
