Customs Seize €700,000 Drug Money at Dublin Airport
Officers of Revenue's Customs Service at Dublin Airport this morning (Sat 15th March) seized €700,000 under the Proceeds of Crime Act.
The money was discovered in a checked-in bag after Officers intercepted a 26 year-old Irish male as he waited to board a flight to Brussels.
Officers later applied for, and were granted a three month detention order under the Proceeds of Crime Act to carry out further investigations, by Judge Thomas Fitzpatrick in the Dublin District Court.
Customs believe the money was being exported to finance the importation of large a consignment of drugs by a west Dublin gang.
This brings to approximately €1.5 million the total seized under the Proceeds of Crime Act by Revenue's Customs Service at Dublin Airport to-date this year.
