Cash Seizure at Dublin Airport
Officers from Revenue's Customs service at Dublin Airport have today seized €279,000 suspected drug money under the Proceeds of Crime Act.
The cash was discovered during routine examination of checked-in luggage by a customs cash detection dog. The cash was concealed in a specially constructed false bottom of a suitcase belonging to a 49-year-old Dublin man who was about to depart on a flight to Lisbon.
Judge John Lindsey of Dublin District court granted an application for a detention order for three months to allow Customs officers carry out further investigations.
The detention follows the detention of €700,000 yesterday and brings to €1.8 million the total detained by Customs officers at Dublin Airport under the Proceeds of Crime Act, since the beginning of 2008.
Ends 16/03/2008
