Revenue Officers Seize Cocaine & Cannabis at Dublin Airport
Officers from Revenue's Customs Service at Dublin Airport have seized approximately 3Kgs of Cocaine and 20Kgs of cannabis in three operations over the last 2 days. The drugs seized have a street value of approximately €450,000.
Yesterday afternoon, (18/11/2008) 20kgs of Herbal Cannabis was discovered by officers in the baggage of a 24 year-old South African female who had arrived on a flight from Brussels, having previously travelled from Johannesburg, South Africa via Athens. On examination of her baggage they discovered 20 blocks of Herbal Cannabis valued at €240,000.
Later last night officers seized 2kgs of cocaine from a 26 year-old South African female who had arrived in Dublin airport from Santiago, Chile via Madrid. The drugs valued at €140,000 were concealed in a specially constructed false compartment in her suitcase.
In the third operation today, (19/11/2008), a 40 year old Portugese male who had arrived on a flight from Dakar, Senegal via Paris was intercepted by officers and found to have approximately 1Kg of cocaine concealed in the soles of a pair of trainers. This cocaine had an approximate street value of €70,000.
All three suspects were handed over to the Santry Garda Drug Unit and are expected to appear in court this afternoon (19/11/2008).
To date in 2008 Officers of Revenue's Customs Service at Dublin Airport have seized over €7.3 million of drugs.
