Customs Officers Seize Cash at Dublin Airport

Officers from Revenue's Customs Service seized cash of almost €107,000 at Dublin Airport on Friday (18/10/08), under the Proceeds of Crime Act.

This follows the seizure of €187,000 cash last Thursday (16/10/2008).

The cash was discovered in the baggage of a 33 year-old Dutch male who was about to depart on a flight to Amsterdam on Friday evening.

On Saturday (18/10/2008), officers applied for, and were granted, a three-month detention order, by Justice John O'Neill in the Dublin District Court to carry out further investigations.

This brings the total cash seized by Customs in Dublin Airport in 2008 to €2.6million.

Ends: 20/10/2008
