Large Cannabis seizure in Rosslare

Officers from Revenue's Customs Service have seized 25Kgs of cannabis resin with a street value of €175,000. One UK male aged 51 years and a French female aged 43 years have been arrested and are currently being questioned in Wexford Garda station.

The drugs were concealed within a split petrol tank in a UK registered Vauxhall car which had disembarked the car-ferry from Cherbourg, France. Drug detection dog 'Dillon' gave a positive indication on the vehicle during routine profiling by Customs officers.

Following further examination and dismantling of the vehicle officers discovered the carefully constructed compartment in the fuel tank, containing the drugs. Customs officer Eddie Fortune said, ''This was a well concealed smuggling device. Drug dog Dillon is a significant help to us and has been involved in the seizure of cannabis valued at €8.7 million, at Rosslare Europort, in the last three months.''
