Multiple drug seizures by Customs at Dublin Airport
In two separate seizures Officers from Revenue's Customs Service at Dublin Airport seized 24.2 kilos of herbal cannabis yesterday evening (Tues 29th).
The first seizure of 10.6 kilos of herbal cannabis was seized when Officers intercepted a 26 year-old Spanish male national who had arrived from Bilbao via Madrid. A search of his baggage revealed the drugs consignment. The drugs are valued at €127,200.
The second seizure was made when Officers searched the baggage of a 46 year-old South African female who had travelled into Dublin from Johannesburg via Abu Dhabi. Customs Officers discovered 13.6Kilos of herbal cannabis, valued at €163,200 concealed in her baggage.
Both individuals were arrested and handed over to the Gardai at Santry for further questioning and they are expected to appear in court later today.
In three other seizures at the airport yesterday Customs Officers foiled an attempt to smuggle prescribed drugs into the country on a flight from Malaga. The 14,000 sleeping tablets, Limovan, Zopicalma and Dorimidan, had a potential street value of €70,000.
This follows the seizure on Monday of 12,605 Limovan tablets with a potential street value of €63,025 from a passenger who had also arrived from Malaga.
Prosecution files are being prepared in these four cases.
