Seizure of Cigarettes and Tobacco at Dublin Port
Officers from Revenue’s Customs Service based at Dublin Port and An Garda Síochána carried out a series of coordinated searches of three premises in North Dublin today (31/07/2008).
As a result of the searches officers uncovered 129,000 cigarettes and 11 Kgs of 'roll-your-own' tobacco.
A Revenue spokesman said that this was a particularly successful operation. ''We are confident that information gleaned during this action will assist us in future operations. The cigarettes seized are a mix of brands, (including Mayfair, Marlboro, L&M and Dorchester), that will assist us in identifying further contraband''.
Further operations are being planned.
A number of people are helping with enquiries and files are being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
