Customs Seize Cash at Dublin Airport
Officers of Revenue Customs Service at Dublin Airport yesterday, (15/09/09) seized €90,000, when they searched the baggage of two Irish nationals. The couple, a 25 year old male and a 24 year old female were intercepted by Customs officers as they were about to board a flight for Amsterdam early yesterday morning.
The cash was concealed in a false bottom of a suitcase.
The seizure was as a result of routine risk profiling and was seized in accordance with Section 38, Criminal Justice Act 1994 as amended by Section 20, Proceeds of Crime (Amendment) Act 2005. Officers were granted a three-month detention order this morning by Judge Hugh O'Donnell in the Dublin District Court, to carry out further investigations.
To date this year Revenue's Customs Service at Dublin Airport have made 15 cash seizures amounting to €550,000.
