Oil tanker and 33,000 Litres of Oil detained in Galway
Officers from Revenue's Customs Service based in Galway and Limerick, assisted by Gardai, yesterday evening (16/03/09) detained an English registered oil tanker which was in the course of delivering diesel to a retail premises in south Galway. The detained tanker contained approximately 16,000 litres of oil on which the Excise duty and VAT had not been paid. A further 17,000 litres was removed from a storage tank on the premises. The total revenue at risk amounted to over €25,000.
A man was questioned at the scene and an investigation has now commenced and a file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
The 33,000 litres of oil and the oil tanker were seized and removed to a secure location under Gardai escort.
