Customs seize over 350,000 cigarettes
During an operation in the Midlands yesterday, (21/6/2009) officers from Revenue's Customs Service seized 54,000 cigarettes destined for Clara Market. The cigarettes, including B&H and Palace, had a street value of €24,300 and a potential loss to Revenue of €20,037.
In a further operation today, (22/6/2009) officers in Dundalk seized 297,000 cigarettes at a private premises, valued at €133,690 with a potential loss to Revenue of €110,242.
Both seizures were as a result of risk profiling and number of people have been questioned.
Enquiries are continuing and files are being prepared for prosecution.
