Cocaine Seizures at Dublin and Cork Airports

Over the last weekend, officers from Revenue’s Customs Service at Dublin Airport intercepted two drug couriers, who had ingested cocaine, with estimated total street value of €87,500. On Saturday, 21st February, Customs officers intercepted a 30 year-old Irish male. Following questioning, officers suspected that the man had ingested a quantity of drugs. He had earlier arrived on a flight from Brussels and was handed over to the Garda Drug Squad in Santry. It was discovered he had ingested 100 pellets of cocaine, weighing approximately 1 kg, and with a street value of €70,000.

On Sunday, 22nd February, Customs officers, in a joint operation with the Garda National Immigration Bureau, detained a 39 year-old South African male, who had arrived on a flight from Argentina. Officers suspected that the man had ingested drugs and handed him over to the Garda Drug Squad in Santry. It was found he had ingested four pellets of cocaine, weighing approximately .25 kgs, with an estimated value of €17,500. Both men are due to appear at Dublin District Court this afternoon.

Also, at Cork Airport last night, (Sunday, 22nd February), officers from Revenue’s Customs Service, in conjunction with Immigration Officials and the Garda Drug Unit, stopped and detained a 60 year-old South African male, who had arrived on a flight from Brazil via Amsterdam. The man, who is now in Cork University Hospital, was discovered to have ingested an, as yet, undetermined amount of cocaine.
