Customs seize Cocaine at Cork Airport

Last night (22/02/09), officers from Revenue’s Customs Service at Cork Airport, in conjunction with Immigration Officials and the Garda Drug Unit, stopped and detained a 60 year-old male South African passenger, who flew in from Brazil via Amsterdam. The man was detained, in the Customs Search area, in relation to a drug importation offence. He was transferred to Cork University Hospital, where it was later discovered he had ingested 77 pellets, containing approximately 1 kg of cocaine, with a street value of €70,000. The man is in custody there and investigations are continuing.
