Revenue's Customs Officers seize over 3 million Cigarettes from Rosslare Europort
Cigarettes, with a potential loss to the Exchequer of €1.2 million, were seized this morning, Monday, 25th May, 2009, by Revenue's Customs officers, on a ferry from France to Rosslare Europort, Co. Wexford.
The cigarettes, including the brand names L& B, Regal and Superkings, were hidden in a 40-foot container and were described as "Bananas". The lorry-driver, from Northern Ireland, was released after being questioned. Investigations, involving other European enforcement agencies, are continuing in the matter.
The cigarettes were discovered following risk-profiling by Customs officers.
