Cigarette Seizure at Dublin Airport
Officers of Revenue's Customs Service at Dublin Airport, yesterday (28/04/2008), seized 134,500 cigarettes with a street value of €55,000 and a potential loss to the exchequer amounting to €45,500.
In an operation targeting a Lithuanian based gang the cigarettes were seized from passengers who had arrived on a flight from Vilnius, Lithuania. The cigarettes consisted of 'Marlboro' and 'L&M' brands and officers believe they were destined for black market outlets in Dublin.
This was another significant success for Customs at Dublin Airport who to-date this year have seized 11 million cigarettes , with 2.3 million seized this month alone.
