Customs seize Cigarettes and Tobacco in Clare
Officers from Revenue's Customs Service on Friday (29/10/2010), seized 37,000 cigarettes and over 20 Kilos of roll-your-own tobacco in Meelick, Co Clare.
The seizure, which is a part of Revenue's ongoing operations targeting the supply and sale of illegal cigarettes, has a potential retail value of €23,000 and a potential loss to the exchequer of €20,000.
Officers executed a search warrant at a premises and one male in his 50's was questioned.
The investigation is ongoing with a view to prosecution.
A confidential free phone number (1800 295 295) was introduced earlier this year for members of the public to provide Customs with any information they may have regarding the smuggling or sale of illegal cigarettes.
