Customs Seize over 2 million Cigarettes in Rosslare Harbour

Officers from Revenue's Customs Service based in Rosslare Harbour, today (04/12/2010) seized over 2 million cigarettes with an estimated retail value of €1 million and a potential loss to the exchequer of €750,000.

Officers intercepted and examined a 40-foot container which had arrived from Cherbourg.

The consignment of cigarettes was concealed in a shipment described as 'stone'

One man in his forties was detained and is being questioned.
