Customs Seize Cash at Rosslare Europort
Officers from Revenue's Customs Service at Rosslare Europort on Saturday (11/09/10) seized €91,000 when they questioned a Swedish national. The male in his forties was stopped by Customs Officers as he was about to board a ferry to France.
The seizure, under Section 38, Criminal Justice Act 1994 as amended by Section 20, Proceeds of Crime (Amendment) Act 2005, was as a result of routine risk profiling. Officers were granted a three-month detention order this morning by Judge Donnacha Ó Buachalla in Wexford District Court, to carry out further investigations.
This is the third cash seizure made by Customs Officers at Rosslare this year totalling €128,100. To date this year Revenue's Customs Service had 31 cash seizures totalling €1.1m.
