Customs Seize Cash at Kerry Airport

Officers from Revenue's Customs Service at Kerry airport, today, (15/10/2010) seized €50,000 when they questioned a German national.

The male in his forties was stopped by Customs Officers as he was about to board a flight to Germany.

The seizure, under Section 38, Criminal Justice Act 1994 as amended by Section 20, Proceeds of Crime (Amendment) Act 2005, was as a result of routine risk profiling. Officers were granted a three month detention order this afternoon by Judge James O'Connor at Tralee District Court, to carry out further investigations.

To date this year Revenue's Custom Service had 37 seizures in excess of €1.6m.
