Customs Uncover Oil Laundering Plant in Co. Laois
Officers from Revenue's Customs Service today (22/10/2010) uncovered a large oil laundering plant near Portarlington, Co. Laois. 26,500 litres of laundered fuel with an approximate value of €30,000 was seized.
The plant had the capacity to launder an estimated 100,000 litres per week with a potential loss to the Exchequer of €50,000 per week. Customs Officers dismantled and seized ancillary equipment and Environmental Services removed 29,000 litres of toxic waste material.
A large quantity of wine with an approximate value of €50,000 and two vehicles with an approximate value of €20,000 were also seized.
Two individuals were questioned and a file is being prepared for the DPP.
