Cigarettes and Tobacco Seized at Dublin Airport

Officers of Revenue's Customs Service, based at Dublin Airport's Passenger Terminal, yesterday (28/04/2010) seized 189,600 cigarettes and 28kgs of tobacco with an approximate street value of €86,277 and a potential loss to the exchequer of €70,129.

In an anti-smuggling operation, officers intercepted 12 passengers arriving on a flight from Tenerife and seized 100,200 cigarettes and 28kgs of tobacco.

Further seizures were made from couriers arriving on flights from Dubai, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and Hungary.

Brands seized include 'Pall Mall', 'CK', 'L&M', 'Marlboro', 'More' and 'West'.

A number of people were questioned in relation to the seizures.

To date in 2010, 6.1million cigarettes and 308kgs of tobacco have been seized at Dublin Airport.
