Customs Uncover Underground Oil Laundering Plant
Officers from Revenue's Customs Service, assisted by Gardaí from Monaghan and the Regional Response Unit, this morning (11/03/11) uncovered a large underground oil laundering plant near Monaghan Town.
The plant had the capacity to launder an estimated ten million litres of fuel per year with a potential loss to the Exchequer of approximately €6m per year. Customs officers seized 40,000 litres of laundered fuel, a lorry, four cars and a van at the plant this morning. Ancillary equipment was also dismantled and seized.
A number of individuals were questioned and investigations are ongoing.
