Customs seize 8 million Cigarettes near Drogheda

Officers from Revenue's Customs Service, assisted by Gardai, last night (12/01/2011) seized approximately eight million cigarettes and two trucks near Drogheda.

The 'B & H' brand cigarettes, with an estimated retail value of €3.4m and a potential loss to the exchequer of approximately €2.9m, arrived into Dublin Port on a 40 ft container from China.

Two males were arrested and investigations are ongoing.

A file is being prepared for the DPP.
