Customs Uncover Oil Laundering Plant in Co. Louth

Officers from Revenue's Customs Service, assisted by Gardaí, this morning (16/02/11) uncovered a large oil laundering plant near Hackballscross, Dundalk, Co. Louth.

The plant had the capacity to launder an estimated 7.5m litres of fuel per year with a potential loss to the Exchequer of approximately €4.5m per year. Customs Officers seized 25,000 litres of laundered fuel at the plant this morning. Ancillary equipment was also dismantled and seized.

A male in his twenties was arrested and investigations are ongoing.
