Cannabis Swallowers arrested at Dublin Airport

Five arrests were made by Officers from Revenue's Customs Service at Dublin Airport yesterday afternoon, (15/12/2011), when they stopped and questioned five men on foot of routine profiling.

The five individuals, a 45 year old British national resident in Ireland and four Romanian nationals aged 25, 26, 52 and 53, had arrived in Ireland on a flight from Madrid. When officers questioned the men, two of them admitted to swallowing pellets of drugs.

The men were arrested and handed over to Dublin Airport Gardaí and x-rays confirmed the suspicions of the Officers. The men were detained in Garda custody and by noon today, the five had passed over 600 pellets of cannabis resin. It is estimated that the final quantity of drugs will be in the region of 5kgs representing a potential street value of €60,000.

This latest detection follows the arrest of another 'Swallower' at Dublin Airport last Sunday (11/12/2011). A 25 year old British national also arriving on a flight from Madrid was found to have ingested 115 pellets of cannabis resin, amounting to 1.16kgs. He appeared in court earlier this week and was remanded in custody for a week.
