Customs Uncover Oil Laundering Plant in Co. Monaghan
Officers from Revenue's Customs Service this morning (19/01/11) uncovered a large oil laundering plant near Carrickmacross, Co. Monaghan. A laundering operation was underway at the time.
The plant had the capacity to launder an estimated three million litres of fuel per year with a potential loss to the Exchequer of approximately €1.8m per year. Customs Officers seized 12,000 litres of laundered fuel and a truck. Ancillary equipment was also dismantled and seized.
A male in his forties was questioned and investigations are ongoing with a view to prosecution.
