Cash Seized at Dublin Airport
Officers from Revenue's Customs Service, yesterday (23/08/2011), seized a total of €22,500 in two cash seizures, when they stopped and searched two Lithuanian nationals as they attempted to board a flight to Eindhoven, Holland.
Upon searching a 37 year old male, they discovered €12,500 and on searching a 30 year old female they discovered a further €10,000. The seizures were made on foot of routine profiling.
The cash was seized by Customs in accordance with Section 38, Criminal Justice Act 1994 as amended by Section 20, Proceeds of Crime (Amendment) Act 2005.
Officers were granted a three-month detention order this morning, (24/08/2011), by Judge Aingeal Ni Chonduin in the Dublin District Court, to carry out further investigations.
To-date this year Revenue's Customs Service at Dublin Airport have made 16 cash seizures amounting to €347,930.
